LONDON, UK and PALO ALTO, CA, March. 15, 2016 – OnApp and Yubico, the leading provider of simple and open online identity protection, today announced the integration of the YubiKey into OnApp’s cloud platform. With YubiKey support, thousands of OnApp cloud providers can now add two-factor authentication to their cloud services, and offer an additional layer of hardware security that’s easy to use for their customers and their own support teams.
OnApp is the leading cloud management platform for hosts, telcos and MSPs, with thousands of clouds deployed in 93 countries. With YubiKey support, these cloud service providers can use YubiKey – a USB two-factor authentication device – to offset the weakness of usernames and passwords. YubiKeys are activated with a simple tap on the device, which is nearly indestructible and works without additional drivers or special software.
“Millions of cloud users depend on OnApp every day,” said James Withall, CTO for OnApp. “Security is a cornerstone of the OnApp cloud platform: after thousands of cloud deployments, we offer service providers a proven, battle-hardened platform for a wide range of virtualized and non-virtualized hosting services. For cloud providers, and users who value the highest levels of security, we can now deliver this in a way that’s simple to activate and use on a daily basis, without diminishing the user experience.”
Adding YubiKey support brings another level of security on top of the many security options and authentication methods already present in OnApp. Enabling two-factor authentication with YubiKey is very easy for OnApp cloud providers: they simply turn on YubiKey support for their cloud.
Once enabled, end-user customers activate YubiKey support for their own logins via their OnApp control panel. With YubiKey enabled, the OnApp platform will request that the registered YubiKey is used for login, in addition to a regular username and password. OnApp is the latest addition to the portfolio of leading internet applications and services that support YubiKey, including Google, Dropbox, GitHub and Okta.
“The YubiKey brings a significant increase in security for all OnApp users,” said Stina Ehrensvard, CEO and Founder for Yubico, Inc. “Phishing, malware, and other attack methods are mitigated because the physical key, in conjunction with a username and password are required for login. This provides a combination of something you know and something you have.”
YubiKey support is available now in the OnApp cloud platform. For more information, please visit onapp.com/yubikey or www.yubico.com.
OnApp software enables hosts, telcos and other service providers to sell the complete range of Infrastructure-as-a-Service products, from bare-bones virtual servers to the fully-automated cloud, dedicated servers, CDN, storage and more. The OnApp platform also gives service providers on-demand access to the OnApp Federation, a global network of cloud providers connected to a wholesale marketplace, where they can buy and sell compute and CDN capacity on demand.
OnApp launched in July 2010. Today more than 3,500 service providers in 93 countries run on OnApp software. OnApp has 150 staff across the EU, U.S. and Asia-Pacific and is headquartered in London, UK.
