Transcending passwordless authentication with HYPR and Yubico

In today’s ever-evolving cyberthreat landscape, organizations face increasing challenges in securing their sensitive data and systems from sophisticated attacks like AI-strengthened phishing campaigns or impersonation attacks backed by spates of leaked PII . Even in today’s environments where new, ever larger, breaches make news every week, we’re continuing to see enterprises and employees across the globe rely on legacy authentication methods and even traditional usernames and passwords. In fact, a new Enterprise Management Associates (EMA) study, jointly commissioned by HYPR and Yubico, found that a surprising 91% of business’ workers continue to rely on passwords as a primary form of authentication. 

The challenge – and opportunity – faced by businesses comes with balancing security and user experience. A good user experience with authentication is a critical factor for employees – so much so that 65% of respondents in the survey indicated they would be motivated to change employers if presented with high-friction authentication processes. Additionally, 78% indicated they would be attracted to leave their current job for a new employer that offers easy-to-use authentication processes.

The results of the survey present a clear snapshot of what the biggest challenges are within authentication today, and what the impact of continued reliance on unsecure forms of authentication has. The survey also found that 82% of businesses reported IT security breaches occurred in their organizations in the last year, including compromised credentials, and successful phishing attacks. Businesses know it’s critical to change and move toward modern security and authentication tools, but often don’t know where to start.
