Now is the time to accelerate phishing resistant MFA

While 2021 isn’t quite over yet, at Yubico, we took a moment to reflect on many of the changes and impacts that have happened in the cybersecurity industry. This year has marked some of the biggest security breaches in history including the SolarWinds and Colonial Pipeline hacks. And with these cybersecurity attacks, we’ve seen:

  • Action from some of the world’s large technology companies stepping in to work to combat these malicious efforts.
  • A recent cybersecurity executive order from the White House and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Draft Zero Trust Strategy, which would require that Federal agencies only use multi-factor authentication (MFA) that is resistant to phishing attacks
  • Ransomware security awareness and defensive strategies gaining visibility.

These combined efforts highlight the urgent need to prioritize improving the security of American IT systems through phishing resistant FIDO-based authentication and smartcard authentication, while further pushing the adoption of modern, hardware-based MFA like the YubiKey.

With the events we’ve seen over the past year, we’re feeling more energized and determined than ever to work hard on our mission to make secure login easy and available for everyone. Since Yubico was founded, we’ve worked tirelessly to set global standards for secure access to computers, mobile devices, servers, and internet accounts.

We are pleased to be back in-person again at AWS re:Invent in Las Vegas next week (Nov 29 – Dec 3). If you’re attending, please stop by, say hi, and let’s talk about phishing-resistant MFA, our latest YubiKey Bio Series and Security Key C NFC, and any questions you may have about Yubico or our products. We will be located in the Public Sector Pavilion, and if you aren’t able to attend, we still want to hear from you, submit us a request for a free authentication consultation here!

AWS is an important Yubico partner, providing a seamless, efficient way for their customers — especially those in the public sector — to take advantage of FIPS-validated, phishing resistant, hardware-based authentication with the YubiKey. YubiKeys for AWS IAM and SSO satisfies strong authentication, compliance, and regulatory requirements for government organizations.

The demand from our customers and partners has never been higher, and we are excited to continue partnering with AWS and other companies to make the world more secure. We look forward to meeting everyone at AWS re:Invent Las Vegas this year!
