Banco Ganadero Deploys SwissBytes Virtual Box with YubiKey to Secure Online Banking Services

PALO ALTO, CA, Jan. 20, 2014 – Yubico, the leading provider of simple, open online identity protection, and SwissBytes, an international provider of security technology and consulting services, today announced that Bolivia-based Banco Ganadero has successfully implemented and deployed SwissBytes Virtual Box (SB-VBOX) with integrated YubiKey second-factor authentication to secure online banking services for its customers.

Founded in 1994, Banco Ganadero has become one of the largest banks in Bolivia and needed an easy-to-use and highly effective solution to secure their home banking portal ‘GanaNet’. Banco Ganadero looked to SwissBytes to address this need, while keeping the security of its customer’s accounts and data at utmost importance.

SwissBytes and Yubico worked together to develop a unique solution for GanaNet. SB-VBOX consists of two components, the authentication service and a web application called the ‘YubiKey Control Center’.

Yubico’s YubiKey is an innovative USB security key that compliments the traditional username and password of online services. With just the touch of a button, the YubiKey generates a one-time password as a second form of authentication, all with no client software needed. Increasing ease of use, SB-VBOX with YubiKey authentication can be installed on any operating system or be deployed as a Virtual Machine.

“Financial transactions and banking are one of the top targets for online criminals and one simple stolen password can wreak havoc on one’s online identity,” said Stina Ehrensvard, CEO, Yubico. “We are pleased to partner with SwissBytes, providing Banco Ganadero customers simple, strong two-factor authentication and protection of their online accounts.”

Since implementation, GanaNet users have a secure and fast way to access their accounts with the YubiKey from any computer. In the near future the customers will have the ability to log on to their online accounts from mobile devices across popular operating systems such as iOS, Android and Blackberry.

“Banco Ganadero chose SB-VBOX with YubiKey authentication because it’s such a highly effective and easy-to-use solution to secure their home banking services,” said Marius Lang, CEO, SwissBytes. “As a result, multiple other banks are currently reviewing the SB-VBOX solution for their online banking security.”

With SwissBytes and Yubico, banking and financial institutions have the possibility to add high security to their online services in a fast and affordable way. For more information, please visit www.yubico.com or www.swissbytes.ch.
