YubiKey Survives Ten Weeks in a Washing Machine

PALO ALTO, Calif. and STOCKHOLM, Sep. 29, 2011 — Recently the owner of a YubiKey that was missing found it in the washing machine.  It had survived ten weeks of heat, water and detergent.

The YubiKey is not only ultra-thin, crush safe and battery-free, it is water-resistant as well. It has both survived diving 48 meters down in salt water and more than two months of laundry.

“We found it in the door sealing of the washing machine” said the owner of the YubiKey. “After wiping it dry, it instantly provided me with its one-time-key”.

Furthermore, the YubiKey has survived being run over by a car and eaten by a dog.
