• The next-gen YubiKey is in Beta, with post-quantum cryptography built in.

A new secure element. NIST-standard post-quantum algorithms. Open to developers and early adopters starting November 3, 2026.

Why start now: Protect today, prepare for tomorrow

AI is accelerating phishing, credential theft and impersonation, while quantum computing threatens today’s public-key cryptography.

Security leaders must address both challenges through phishing-resistant authentication, hardware-backed trust and cryptographic agility.

A practical path to post-quantum security must protect existing investments while enabling incremental modernization. With identity infrastructure taking years to evolve—and attackers potentially harvesting encrypted data for future decryption—now is the time to begin evaluating post-quantum technologies.

What’s in the PQC-ready YubiKey, currently in Beta

    • Beyond trusted login to verified authorization: Support for digital signing, securing digital wallets and AI-based workflows.
    • Post-quantum algorithms: ML-DSA (FIPS 204) for digital signatures and ML-KEM (FIPS 203) for key encapsulation.
    • New secure element: a next-generation hardware platform for the key, supporting post-quantum cryptography, and supporting crypto agility.
    • New FIDO attestation: Designed to evolve alongside emerging FIDO standards for post-quantum authentication.
    • Works with today’s phishing-resistant authentication: Seamlessly supports existing FIDO2, passkey and PIV deployments, enabling a smooth transition to post-quantum readiness.

    About the Beta

This is early access for testing and evaluation, not production use. Apply to participate in the program and work directly with the Yubico team. In return, we ask you to test real deployments, report what breaks, and help shape the product.

    • Who it’s for: developers, identity engineers, PKI and cryptography teams
    • Timeline: Public Beta begins on November 3, 2026
    • What you commit to: Testing key use cases, providing feedback to the Yubico team

    What you can test

    • Passkey generation and authentication based on the Post-Quantum ML-DSA algorithm
    • Transitioning Passkey users to Post-Quantum from Classical Cryptography
    • Generation of x.509 credentials for use with PIV PKI backed by PQC ML-DSA for signing and ML-KEM for key encapsulation
    • Updated libraries for FIDO2 and Java supporting Post-Quantum implementation of authentication servers
    • Support for both PKI and FIDO2 Post-Quantum interoperability for implementations as made available by authentication solution providers

    Build with the Beta

PQC Key documentation available upon being accepted into the Beta program:

    • Beta release notes
    • Protocols and standards
    • Reference environments
    • SDKs and libraries
    • Technical manuals
