YubiKey NEO
World’s first NFC enabled one-time password token
The NFC enabled YubiKey NEO is our first step to expanding Yubico technology across smart phones and tablets, leveraging our core value of secure and easy to use out-of-the-box authentication.
Whether you are authenticating an email account or an NFC payment service from your Smartphone, mobile applications have shown to be vulnerable to several forms of attacks. Having a separate easy-to-use hardware device that leverages two-factor authentication for your Smartphone is critical for minimizing the risk of mobile malware.
How it works
When the YubiKey NEO is introduced to a NFC enabled Smartphone, the phone reads the YubiKey which emits a securely encrypted one-time password (OTP), compatible with the OTP provided by the standard YubiKey. The rugged, minimally sized token fits naturally on a key chain and includes NFC contact-less technology as well as the USB interface for use with your regular computer.
The default out-of-the box behavior of reading a YubiKey NEO on a Smartphone is to trigger the browser with a programmable URL that includes the OTP, with no need to install any mobile app. The user experience can be further enhanced by installing apps that support the YubiKey NEO.
Where it can be used
The YubiKey NEO is launched with support for mobile authentication with password manager LastPass, Google Apps (using a SAML service) and the Yubico demo-service. Enterprises and service providers who need strong authentication across the mobile internet are now invited to start integrating support for the YubiKey NEO.
Starting early summer, the majority of Yubico software and services, including YubiRADIUS and many partner solutions, will work with the NFC enabled YubiKey NEO.

How to order
Pre-production samples of the YubiKey NEO is available to order at the Yubico web store, for US $50 per unit.
YubiKey NEO pre-production samples will only be available in single quantity, with full production and volume orders planned for summer 2012. Once in full production, the cost of the YubiKey NEO will be about the double cost of the standard YubiKey, and existing customers will be offered a limited time discount.
Limitations
The YubiKey NEO in pre-production samples has currently the following limitations:
1. Casing and gold contact not as durable as in volume productions
2. Only has one (1) configuration slot
3. Does not support Challenge/Response
4. Does not support static password
5. Has a serial number, but the cross platform personalization tool does not report it (the Windows tool does)
These limitations will be addressed in volume production.
