YubiKey for macOS (10.12 and Later)

Securely log in to your Mac with your YubiKey using the native smart card (PIV) mode. Follow our how-to guide to find out how to use the YubiKey PIV Manager to add macOS credentials to any YubiKey 4, YubiKey 4 Nano, YubiKey 4C, YubiKey 4C Nano, or YubiKey NEO. Read more on our blog post.

The PIV integration with macOS does not allow you to “require” a YubiKey when logging in. To specify this requirement, we recommend that you use the Mac OS Login Tool instead, explained below.

Mac OS X (10.9 and Later)

You can configure your YubiKeys to log in to your Mac running Mac OS X by setting up Challenge-Response using the Yubico Pluggable Authentication Module (PAM). For more information see the YubiKey Mac OS X Login Guide.
