US Process Engineer – Injection Molding   

Yubico seeks a Process Engineer to support its US Production Operations. The ideal candidate will work closely with Yubico’s VP, Global Supply Chain, Head of Manufacturing & Director, QA as an integral part of Yubico’s global supply chain team to ensure all products are produced, with the highest level of quality, on time and per the plan. The ideal candidate will join the team and be responsible for managing 3rd party molding partners in the Bay Area with active oversight for overmold press operations, tool maintenance, closed loop process and product quality, materials management and overall product throughput. This role requires the ability to directly engage in the management of existing tools, with a strong working knowledge of injection molding press operations, while also supporting new tool development by providing tooling designers with practical input on overall supportability of a given design. In this role, the ideal candidate will work with limited supervision and will develop ideas for additional automation needed to streamline the molding & sub-processes to drive improved utilization rates. In addition, the ideal candidate will have sufficient proficiency in LEAN manufacturing techniques and will work as a critical part of the team developing improved procedural documentation while removing waste from all processes. The ideal candidate must, enthusiastically, drive continuous improvement in every operational process. This role represents a wonderful hands-on opportunity for the ideal candidate to accept the difficult challenge of helping to stabilize current production operations while assisting in efforts to lay the foundation for growth as Yubico scales it’s production to meet exciting levels of new business.

 

This role is full time and the position requires daily attendance in our Palo Alto area offices. Critically, this role will be process oriented to begin. Going forward, the ideal candidate may be tasked with personnel supervision and/ or management, predicated on demonstrated leadership aptitude.

 

Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Perform varied tasks in support of Yubico’s third party injection molding partners to drive equipment operation, maintenance and controls to ensure the highest level output of high quality products
  • Report daily inventory usage and assist the physical movement of products through the production process
  • Monitor and manage the set up, running and maintenance of all production equipment used to produce Yubico product with the assistance of others, as needed
  • With the assistance of Yubico’s quality assurance & production teams in both the USA & non-USA locations, assist in developing & maintaining records and reports necessary to keep Yubico management continually updated on production status
  • In conjunction with Yubico engineering and the Head of Manufacturing, assist in developing capacity utilization reports and support capacity improvement projects, as necessary
  • Manage and report on all consumable items used in the production environment
  • Report daily inventory usage and assist the physical movement of products through the process
  • Develop processes with Yubico’s third party partners to ensure accurate counts of product in receiving, incoming & outgoing inventory
  • Work in team environment to enable all upstream and downstream processes are aligned to ensure maximum capacity utilization
  • Pick-up and deliver products from off-site manufacturing facilities on occasion
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and escalate production issues, as necessary
  • Must be able to lift up to 45lbs
  • Complete other duties & tasks, as assigned

 

Skills & Experience:

  • Timely attendance each day and a positive “can do” attitude are required to join this exciting team
  • A minimum of 5-10 years experience working in an injection molding environment with demonstrated experience in equipment operation, maintenance and experience working in a team environment for tool development being considerable a plus
  • Demonstrated knowledge of analysis and implementation remedies for common injection molding process issues
  • Familiarity with various production materials and their performance in multiple molding press conditions
  • Proven experience in bringing up new tools from NPI through full production stabilization
  • Experience with industrial automation
  • Past experience in working with Quality Assurance staff to drive feedback to the production line operators to improve product quality
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Kaizen, 5S, LEAN, Six Sigma & other pertinent production management techniques
  • High attention to detail and the ability to work extended hours on an as needed basis
  • Although a university degree is not required for this position, the ideal candidate will possess excellent written & verbal communications skills
  • Valid California Driver’s License
