Yubico launches YubiKey with RFID

November 2009

Yubico today launches a YubiKey including contactless identification for access to both the physical and digital world.

The first beta series based on the most commonly used RFID standard MIFARE Classic has been manufactured and is successfully verified by customers. The Yubikey RFID looks exactly like an ordinary Yubikey 2.0 and offers a reading distance of about 3 centimeters. During the first quarter 2010, the RFID YubiKey will be available for order in any volume and will eventually support MIFARE Plus and other more secure RFID standards.

The RFID YubiKey is ideal for organizations who want a single identification key for the range of applications:

Networks and services

One touch secure login, works on all computers and platforms with no clients software needed. Server software available as open source or from Yubico solution partners.

Physical access control

Fits directly with existing access control systems as a complement to existing RFID cards and tokens.

NCF mobile phones

Can be used with the range of NFC phones and applications, including remote administration of keys.

Public transportation

A strong alternative to the RFID cards used for access to subways and trains as the user can use the same device to securely purchase tickets online.
