Static Password
The YubiKey can be programmed to generate a long static password instead of a One-Time Passcode (OTP).
This static password requires no back-end server integration and therefore works with most legacy username/password solutions. It is more of a security compromise given that the code is static, but there are a number of applications where it provides a "good-enough and pragmatic" solution.
The static passcode can include any combination of 16 to 64 characters and/or numbers. Changing the static key to randomly generate a new code can be achieved by a 10 second press of the button. To enhance security, we recommend users to keep a simple password and then use the YubiKey to add a strong static password in the same password field.
Dual Identities
The YubiKey can be programmed to hold two independent and separate configurations, including an OTP and static password - all in a single YubiKey.
Static Password and TrueCrypt
