Email: Use the YubiKey to secure access to email services such as Gmail and Fastmail.
Google Apps: Use YubiKey to secure access to Google Apps and Gmail.

How does the YubiKey work?

The YubiKey is a hardware authentication token that looks like a small USB memory stick, but it is actually a keyboard. With the command of an integrated touch button, the device can send a time-variant, secure login code as if it was typed in from a keyboard. And because USB keyboards are standard on all computers the YubiKey works on all platforms and browsers without the need for client software. The YubiKey calculates a unique passcode each time it is used, making it impossible to copy and illegitimately re-use a passcode. The unique passcode is verified each time by a YubiKey compliant web service or software application.

YubiKey Static Mode

The YubiKey can also be used to secure logins to applications and services that are not YubiKey enabled by reprogramming the YubiKey to deliver the same static password each time the button is touched. Although not as secure as a regular YubiKey configuration, this option, combined with a PIN code, provides an easy and flexible way to enhance the security by using a long password that would be very hard to memorize and impractical to re-type each time. To take advantage of this solution, the YubiKey must be re-programmed using our free personalization tool.
