Password Safe and the YubiKey
Password Safe, a free open source password manager software for Windows (Linux version in Beta), now supports YubiKey login with challenge-response capability. This solution offers you an easy and affordable way to manage and secure your Internet passwords and your online identity.
How to enable YubiKey + Password Safe
There are two different ways of enabling YubiKey with Password Safe, depending on if you want pre-configured YubiKeys or use your current YubiKey and configure on your own.
We recommend you to have two YubiKeys where one serves as a backup YubiKey. That is why our guides show you how to enable two YubiKeys.
I want pre-configured YubiKeys
1. Download the free version of Password Safe
2. Get the pre-configured YubiKey bundle at Yubico web store
3. Launch Password Safe and create a new database in your account
4. Select a safe combination (master password)
5. Add a YubiKey by clicking the YubiKey button
6. Confirm by touching your YubiKey, inserted in the USB port
I want to use my current standard YubiKeys
1. Download the free version of Password Safe
2. Configure your YubiKeys to challenge-response mode with Yubikey Configuration Utility by following this guide [pdf]
3. Launch Password Safe and create a new database in your account
4. Select a safe combination (master password)
5. Add a YubiKey by clicking the YubiKey button
6. Confirm by touching your YubiKey, inserted in the USB port
